Bandung is about three hours east of Jakarta by train. The heat is not as stifling as in Jakarta due to the higher altitude.

There is a good choice of budget accommodation and dining options in Bandung.

Where to Stay

Guest House Pos Cihampelas, Jl. Cihampelas No. 12.

This large guesthouse has a variety of rooms from economy rooms at 90,750Rp to family rooms at 400,000Rp and various options in between. The economy rooms have just a single bed, wardrobe, chair and table inside, but are clean and spacious. There is a window high up along the top of the wall, which lets in light, but is too high up to look out of. Extra beds are available at 50,000Rp. More expensive room options include hot water, cable TV and air-con and breakfast. Laundry is available at 6,000Rp/kilo, which is very reasonable.

Where to Eat

Kampoeng Kuring, Jl. Cihampelas No. 30

This place has a variety of delicious Indonesian food. This is not the cheapest place - a meal might come to anything between about 20,000Rp and 60,000Rp, depending upon what dishes you select, but the quality of the food is exceptional. All the food is laid out on a table and you can select the items that you want. At the end you pay for what you have selected.

Cihampelas Walk mall

There is plenty of choice here. Radja Ketjil has some specials and the coffee is reasonably priced. 10% will be added to the bill.

The street stall opposite the Indomarat convenience store, Jl Cihampelas.

Large portions of nasi goreng cost 10,000Rp. You can eat there, in what is a bit like a tent. Or they will wrap it up for you to take away.

Meals can be purchased on the train from about 20,000Rp, from the attendant who walks down the aisle with the menu. There is also basic restaurant car selling food and drinks.
